"IMPULSE!!!"
Mathew Stewart darted up out of his bed, paniced and confused.
"Oh God! You're awake!"
Beside Mathew's bed sat his mother, Katherine. Mathew had only been in his coma for a bit over a year, but his mother looked as if she had aged several years in that time. After all that had happened to her child, she only wanted a normal life for him. Mathew turned to her.
"M.. Mom? Where..."
His mind began to clear, and Matt began to remember. A flash of energy. Incredible power. Young Justice.
"... Impulse..."
Silence. Sleep. Revenge. A lot for a fourteen year old to handle.
"Oh sweetie! Oh God, I'm so glad you're back! I was so worried..."
She embraced him, tears streaming from her eyes. Matt realized, to his dismay, that was no longer a god. He would be normal forever, now. He remembered his hatred of the young heros. He remembered--
"I love you, Mathew. I missed you so much."
Mathew's thoughts changed. He realized that he had actually missed his parents. His normal life. His arms began to rise to hug his mother.
Every light in the building exploded.
Computers shorted out.
From nothingness, an incredible blast of unspeakable power surged into Mathew's hospital room, and into Mathew.
His mother recoiled in fear. "Mathew?" she whispered, as purple energy surrounded her son, flooding into him. The storm ended, and Mathew stood, clad in purple, eyes surging with energy, smiling.
"Not here right now. Can I take a message?"
The being formerly know as Mathew snapped his fingers, instantly transforming every man, woman and child in STAR labs into chocolate.
"MAN, that felt good! But how did... y'know what? I really don't care! All I know is that my power's back, and things are about to get very, very bad for Young Justice!"
As he began to leave the lab, he noticed a Special Report on the TV in his room.
"...is the scene right now in Washington D.C., as a being calling himself only Dominion has seized control of our nations capitol! I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to broadcast, but this madman has apparently defeated the Justice League, leaving the human race unprotected from his murderous designs! Our only hope may lie in other, secondary heros such as the Teen Titans, but I'm not exactly holding my breath!"
Bedlam smiled. "Heh. I like this guy... "
In a flash of purple, he was gone.
