SPOILERS BELOW!!
Okay, so far I have enjoyed this series. Seeing Batman and Superman working together and kicking a$$ has been uber-fun! But so far Issue 5 SUCKS!
In this issue, Batman and Superman have gone underground as President Lex Luthor continues to hunt down the World's Finest.
Worried about their mentors the combined forces of the Bat-Clan (Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Huntress) and the Super-Family (Superboy, Supergirl 3.0, Krypto, and Steel) take a full frontal assult on the White House in order to get some answers.
Sounds like a good story right? Well it SHOULD be, but it isn't. Both the Bat and Super Teams are far too easily beaten by Luthor, not to mention the everyone of them are horribly out of character.
First the assult on the White House is pathetic. Superboy, Supergirl and Steel who are all strong and capable heroes are far too easily captured in a second rate trap.
Meanwhile the Bat-Clan break into the Oval Office and are taken out by odorless nerve gas. (WHAT THE HELL?!) Every single of these traps should have been already shut off thanks to Oracle. The eyes of the Oracle are inside every single government agency. The traps used to captuer everyone were pathetic.
The team has both Steel and Oracle on it. Both of whom should have already shut down all of Luthor's traps and weapons, long before they made the initial assult.
Then of course none of the character were done properly. Robin was portrayed as a hyper-active novice who doesn't understand the concept of stealth. Batgirl is taken out with a mere hit from a bo-staff by Luthor and Huntress is unusually well tempered. Nightwing meanwhile was didn't seem even remotly on his game, being taken so unprepared.
Meanwhile Superboy is hitting on the new Supergirl (who frankly I do not like) which I find very disturbing. You know, considering that Kon is an offical member of the Kent Family and the new Supergirl his Clark's supposed daughter. And aside from the incest hinted at in the story, Kon could have easily used his Tacticle Telekinesis to escape their jail cell, but instead was trying to flirt with his 'cousin.'
The only character I saw remotely right was the freakin' Super-dog Krypto! Krypto was the only character involved that I was happy with.
The only thing that made this comic remotely intersting was the art work. But as for writing... >Thumbs down<
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this issue of Superman & Batman a 2.5.
